How to Apply

Federal Pell GrantsÌýare based on financial need which is determined by the student and parents completing theÌý. This application is required annually (July 1 to June 30) and is based on the previous year’s income information. If students are not interested in applying for the Pell Grant, they may apply for only theÌýHOPEÌý(Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally)ÌýGrantÌýfor Diploma or Certificate programs. This State grant is not based on financial need nor is there a high school graduation date, restrictions to receive this grant if all other eligibility requirements are met.

Students pursing Associate degrees, who are not interested in applying for the Pell Grant, may apply for theÌýHOPEÌý(Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally)Scholarship. This State grant is not based on financial need but the applicant must have graduated from a Georgia high school or later with a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or better in a college preparatory track or a 3.2 cumulative grade point average in technical, vocational or other curriculum tracks. The applicant must also complete theÌýInstitutional ApplicationÌýwhich can be requested from the Financial Aid Office.

The Federal and the State applications can be accessed via the Internet. A Student Resource Lab is located in the Financial Aid Office in Room 101 of the Odom Center on the Americus Campus or in Room A51 at the Crisp County Campus. Transient Students (enrolled at more than one school during the same term)
If you are wanting to take classes at South Georgia Tech (host school), then contact the Financial Aid office of your home school to insure that all your financial aid paperwork is in order as the home school will verify your eligibility. You are eligible to receive the HOPE Grant or Scholarship at the host school (SGTC) if you are otherwise eligible.

If you are a transient student from South Georgia Tech to a host school, then SGTC will notify the host school of your eligibility for HOPE or Pell. If you are eligible for HOPE, that can be received at the host school. Your Pell Grant will be awarded from South Georgia Tech (home school) at the end of the semester as long as we receive the enrollment verification from the host school after you have completed 60% of the quarter (normally after the 6th week).

Transfer Students (leaving one school and enrolling at another)
If you completed a FAFSA for the current school year, go online at Ìýand add the Institution Code for the school you intend to enroll.
